Swiss Bank
Swiss Bank
Thanks to the efforts of a Goodwill Ambassador, the Swiss bank, EFG Bank, is now on its way to Copenhagen. Initially, it opens up for 10 new jobs, but the Managing Director expects that number to rise in the future.
55 offices located in 30 countries. EFG Bank is well represented around the world and on 1 March 2010 the bank opened in Copenhagen. The man heading the Danish division is Lars-Christian Brask, who has previously worked in the U.S. and in England as a top executive for some of the world's largest banks - and he has also opened his own, Brask & Co Ltd. in London and has also had a motor racing team and a couple restaurants.
- EFG Bank approached me, to ask if I thought there was a market for a bank in Copenhagen, because they had been considering Copenhagen for quite a while. They had not found quite the right person to lead the Danish venture and thought I could do it," explains Lars-Christian Brask, who has been a Goodwill Ambassador for 10 years.
Good arguments for Copenhagen
He has spent most of his adult life abroad, but the ambassador-time and five years as head of the well-to-do Carnegie Bank in Copenhagen has given Lars-Christian Brask really good insights into the arguments that speaks for what Copenhagen has to offer.
- I could easily document the market, the need for this type of bank and that Copenhagen possesses the necessary talent. The demand and need for EFG's services are present, and the timing is really good. Moreover, Denmark has the exact regulatory framework, infrastructure and possibilities, which EFG could wish for, and are accustomed, to from Switzerland, UK, USA and Sweden, says Lars-Christian.
- We are going to be a minimum of 10 people in 2010, and we are open to acquire and expand in areas of relevance for our customers and owners, he says.
The EFG Bank case went relatively fast. It began last September on 1 March and was completed in December. Lars-Christian Brask encourages other Goodwill Ambassadors to consider if there are people in their network, who work in industries or companies that lack representation in Copenhagen and how the ambassadors can help to influence and guide the company to choose Copenhagen.
Networking makes the difference
The ambassadors' networks prove their advantages over, for example, Copenhagen Capacity’s own consultants, who do not live and move in circles of local business people. They have contacts in their network and can respond quickly if they hear of a company’s interest for moving abroad, for example to Scandinavia.
- One of the purposes of the ambassadors is that they help attract businesses and events to Copenhagen. Therefore, we have equipped them with solid arguments as to why Copenhagen is an attractive city and, as such, we are also extremely happy that we have now succeeded in getting EFG Bank to Copenhagen, said Executive Secretary of the ambassadorial corps, Morten King-Grubert. He adds that the Corp’s huge potential provides him with great expectations for 2010 with more success stories like that of EFG Bank.
